Mark Selby is CEO of Canada Nickel and speaks as a long-time nickel industry observer with a strong focus on project development, permitting, and market structure. Across the supplied interviews, he presents himself as a technically grounded resource executive who tracks ore, NPI, stainless, sulphur, and inventory flows as closely as exchange prices. He repeatedly frames himself as someone who has seen multiple cycles and who can read the physical supply chain, not just headline LME moves.
Selby’s recurring economic worldview is that nickel is moving from a cyclical, sentiment-driven market toward a structurally tighter, more managed regime. He argues that Indonesia now has outsized influence over supply through quotas, minimum price formulas, royalty tiers, and broader resource-nationalist policy, effectively making the country the key price-setter for the market. In his view, short-term weakness usually reflects seasonal ore availability, US dollar strength, or speculative pressure, while the deeper trend is rising costs across the chain, declining ore grades, tighter inventories, and stronger demand from stainless steel and batteries. He expects higher support levels for nickel over time and often interprets dips as temporary rather than a change in fundamentals. The overall message is bullish on nickel, especially for advanced projects outside Indonesia, because policy-driven cost floors and constrained new supply should lift long-term prices.
